TWG Members’ Welcome Reception

We were delighted to host the TWG Members’ Welcome Reception with poet James Harpur, former Oscar Wilde Writing Fellow at Trinity College Dublin.

James paid a heartfelt tribute to his late sister, Merrily Harpur, a prominent cartoonist, writer, and Trinity alumna. Reflecting on her time at Trinity in the late 1960s, he shared how those years helped shape her into a creative force. Merrily went on to contribute to The Guardian, The Times, Private Eye, and other publications, and published several cartoon books. She also co-founded the Strokestown International Poetry Festival, leaving a lasting cultural legacy.

James read excerpts from his memoir, The Magic Theatre, offering recollections of his own student years and poetic journey.
